How to get accurate noise level measurements
The quality of hearing conservation programs (HCPs) required by OSHA deviates greatly from employer to employer. Much of this disparity relates to how well exposure data is collected, interpreted and applied to make “sound decisions” regarding an individual employee’s status in the HCP and the level and effectiveness of protection they are provided. Noise monitoring instrumentation makes data collection simple. But inconsistent analysis and interpretation of exposure sample data can lead to problems preventing hearing loss.
